I never really understood the term “like-minded people” until I transitioned into my career and started to meet like-minded people. These are the people who understand my reasons and strategy behind all the risks I have taken to get to another level in my career. Some of my family and friends who are a part of my support system may not understand because they are looking from the outside looking in.
I don’t want to give a false impression about like-minded people, because they may not always agree with you, but their opinions will come from a different place. You want have to wonder if they are saying things because they want to hinder your progress. They may actually be speaking from experience and not emotion. And sometimes when you are in a place of uncertainty or frustration a discussion that comes from experience is what you need, not someone’s emotional opinions.
Like-minded people can also assist in holding you accountable. If you are anything like me you may need an outside source to assist you with your accountability. Again they understand where you are and can hold you accountable from a place of experience and not so much from a place of emotion.
Like-minded people aren’t necessarily your saving grace when it comes to a support system because you can sometime run into the wrong like-minded individuals. It is definitely a frustrating learning experience. They say you can’t pick your family, but sometimes we pick the wrong friends and associates as well. At the end of it all just take it all as a learning experience. Like-minded people are definitely needed in your life in order for you to learn some things you can’t get from an article or website. Choose wisely.
