7 Tips on How to Get Unstuck

Several of us have made mistakes in life.  I personally have done so myself. But you cannot allow those past or the current transgressions in your life keep you stuck.  I don’t know about you, but feeling stuck in life is the most depressing, anxiety filled experience I’ve ever had in my life. It can cause many sleepless nights, self-doubt, confusion, and a dreadful unhappiness.  It’s as if the world around you is moving, but you are at a helpless stand still. But little do we know that this event can ultimately be the birth of SOMETHING GREAT!  Don’t allow that little word to make you or break you.

Honestly, every time I’ve felt stuck in life it was because I was trying to take things out of God’s hand and do it my way. That goes for my career and my personal life. Ultimately, I had to realize that HEY it’s ok that things change.  I also had to realize that I had to get in tune with God; because that was the only way I would be happy.

I said all of that to say you don’t have to stay stuck.  It’s ok if life didn’t work out as you planned.  Now you are at a point and you know exactly what you have to do, but you are just afraid to do so.  So here are 7 tips that I have learned along the way about freeing yourself from being stuck:

  • Face Your Fear

A lot of times we are afraid to deviate from OUR plan because of the time already put in, or we are afraid to disappoint loved ones.

  • Appreciate the Time You Think You Wasted

You may look at the time that has gone by as time wasted, but it’s not. It will all come together later IF you let go of YOUR plan.  You had to experience life good or bad to get where you are now. Everybody’s process isn’t the same.  Yea it may be 5, 10, 20, or even 30 years that has passed, but how long are you going to dwell on that and move on. We can should’ve, could’ve, would’ve all day, but at the end of the day you still won’t be happy.

  • Simply Pray

A lot of times we get so caught up in doing things ourselves, and forget it’s not our battle.  God has it already planned out. Pray about what you should do or pray for the strength to do what you already know you have to do.

  • Stop Comparing What You Haven’t Done to What Everybody Else Has Done

So many times, I have heard “I started college with you and I still don’t have a degree”, “We are the same age and you are further than me in life”, “I wish I had it all together like you” etc. Guess what you can’t keep comparing your ups and downs in life to someone else’s.  It may look like someone else has done better than you, and they may have, BUT it’s not over for you.  You don’t know what the next person had to go through to get where they are.  Also, if you messed up in life, take your charge.  Hold yourself accountable, and stop throwing this pity party.  We’ve all been there!

  • Accept and Forgive Yourself

Accept that things have changed, you have changed, and your interests have changed. It is ok! Look at the change as a gift and not a curse. You have changed for a reason, and it’s time to find out why.  Don’t be so hard on yourself because the vision you originally had in your head has changed or didn’t happen as you planned.  Forgive yourself and move on.  If you stay stuck in this moment, you will let another year past by without evolving into your true self.  I say if you aren’t evolving you aren’t living.

  • Reflect and Get It Done

Reflect on how you got where you are now and think about where you want to go from here.  It’s not too late and remember that everything you have been through in life is for a purpose.  Yes, we’ve all made mistakes, but you have to give yourself a break. You’re human. Think about things you’ve learned, write them down along with your new plan for life, and incorporate the two. STOP TALKING about the changes you will make, or the things you will accomplish and GET IT DONE!  Remember, you don’t have anything to prove to anyone but God.

  • Put Everything into Action

Now that you have faced your fear, appreciated the time that has passed, prayed, stopped comparing, accepted where you are now, reflected, and wrote out your NEW dreams and goals, it’s now time to get to work! Get yourself a tablet, open up a note on your phone, or get an old piece of paper and write. Write down the goals you want to accomplish, what you need to do to get it done, and do just that. Psst. Remember you don’t have to do this alone. Seek assistance if needed.

REMEMBER, at the end of the day you are the beholder of your destiny.
